From Monday to Friday we go to school, and on Saturday and Sunday, we play! Learning the days of the week is an important skill our little ones must learn. Everyone needs to know about the days of the week!

But how can parents teach their children the days of the week? A quick and fun way to introduce this topic is by having a daily activity known as ‘Day Time’. This is a popular morning activity for many preschoolers. Toddlers practice and repeat the days of the week by singing. Singing is a great tool for parents since it is a quick and easy way to introduce concepts for kids plus the kids love it!

Children enjoy singing the same songs every day. They will learn the songs in no time and it is really easy to add new lyrics to the song. For example:

The Days of the Week

“There are seven days, there are seven days,
There are seven days in the week.
There are seven days, there are seven days,
There are seven days in the week.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday.”

Also, parents can explain more about the days by telling the stories behind their names:

Monday – Moon’s day

Tuesday – God Tyr’s day

Wednesday – God Odin’s (Woden’s) day

Thursday – God Thor’s day

Friday – God Freya’s day

Saturday – God Saturn’s day

Sunday – Sun’s day

Kids will love the songs and parents will be happy when they see their kids naming the days of the week! Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday fun-day!
